Summer of Sketching Week 7: Music

Woah. Can't believe we are half way through the summer already! Hope you're enjoying Summer of Sketching it as much as I am.

I'm getting ready to leave NYC and travel for a while, so time has been pretty scarce.  Gonna do my best to keep these prompts coming! The first two stops on my adventure are the UK and then Amsterdam, where I'll be hosting a sketching meetup. It'll be my first international meetup that I'm organizing! I <3 the internet.

Last week's prompt was COLLAB.

I asked you to find a friend and make something cool with them. This prompt was more open-ended so I was happy to see all the different ways people took it.

A few of you even collaborated remotely with friends across borders which is such a good idea. I need to do this more.

Week 7 Prompt: MUSIC

I get jealous of musicians sometimes, because music has a unique ability to transport you to a place in time. Visual design/art can do this too but we all know that music has so many different magic powers. I think it's safe to say we're all inspired by it daily.

Music is the space between the notes... or something like that.

I think whoever said that quote was right (it was Achille-Claude Debussy, I googled it). The same thing can be said for lettering and illustration. It's just as much about what you put into it as what you leave out.

This week I want you to create a piece inspired by one of your favorite bands/musicians or songs. You can write out lyrics, make up your own or do something wildly different.

Have fun and post your piece on Instagram with #summerofsketching.

Tip/Question of the week:

What does your artwork sound like? Make a playlist of your favorite drawing tunes that get you in the mood.

PS. I just posted my recap blog post from the Adobe x Apple Make It On Mobile event. I learned a lot from that experience and I'm stoked to share it with you! Check it out when you have a chance.
